BURGLARS IN PAHIATUA

PALMERSTON N., This Day.

. Four separate premises in Pahiatua were broken into on Tuesday evening and approximately £30 was stolen. At Messrs, Gardner and Yeoman, Ltd., a window was forced and the safe was blown, marks of a hacksaw and a drill being evident. About £7 belonging to the firm and £20 in the safe belonging to two employees was stolen. The office was found in a state of disorder, drawers being emptied and files of papers scattered about the floor. The door near the main entrance to the garage of Watts and Lawry Motors, Ltd., which leads into Mr. Watts's office, was forced. The till was cleaned out, but only a small sum had been left there. Including the staff's tea mtfhey, £1 6s was taken. The thieves also broke into th* showroom, but nothing was taken except a key to one of the bowser pumps. The main office safe was not tampered with. Mr. V. Wilton's workshop, next door to the garage, was also included in the raid, but nothing is missing. A window at the rear of the railway station was forced for the thieves to gain access to the building, and an unsuccessful attempt was made to blow open the safe. Nothing of value was taken.
