FUNERAL SERVICE
MR. L K. MCMURRICH
A large number of-friends and representatives -of shipping companies and mercantile interests attended the !funeral.yesterday of Mr. Laurence KT. McMurrich, chief engineer of the Rangatira. .
Requiem Mass was celebrated at St. Patrick's Church, Kilbirnie, by the Rev, Father Griffin, assisted by the Rev. Father Barr-Brown. The Rev. Monsignor Connolly was present in the sanctuary. A choir of children sang the music. The Rev. Father Griffin conducted the service at'the Karori Cemetery^
The chief mourners were Mr. Lan McMurrich (son), Miss Laurette .McMurrich (daughter), Mrs. E. J. McClellan (sister), and Mr. J. McMurrich (brother). The pall-bearers were Mr. R. L. Gillies, superintending engineer of the Union Steam Ship Company; Mr. W. P. Sommerville, secretary of the Marine Engineers' Institute; Mr. P. J. Ward, chief engineer of the Maunganui;. Mr. L. S. Dawson, engineer surveyor, Marihe Department; Mr. J. D. Hamilton, second engineer of the Rangatira; and Mr. V. Maplesden. ,
Among the many present were Captain G. B. Morgan, of the Rangatira, Mr. C. R. Carlyon, second officer; Mr.' K. A. Seaman, third officer; Captain B. B. Irwin, Mr. E. G. Matyard, chief officer, and Mr. W. Aimers, chief engineer, of the Wahine; Captain C. Sharpe and Mr. F. Mowatt, chief engineer, of the Tamahine; Captain T. E. Bevan. arid Mr. C. Broadley, chief engineer, of the Poolta; Mr. T. R. Gilmoiir, chief engineer, and Mr. W. J. Freeman, chief officer, of the Kartigi; Captain E. J. McClellan, assistant marine superintendent/Union Steam" Ship Company; Mr. H.. E. Aplin, representing the head office management of the Union Company; Mr. L. M. Denby and Mr. H. S. Manning, the Wellington branch; Mr. D. Janneson, Wellington Patent Slip Company; Captain T. Bowling, wharf superintendent of the Union Company; Dr. Craig, formerly Comptroller of Customs; Colonel R. L. Evatt; Mr. G. Breeze, chief surveyor, Marine Department; Mr. G. Lidgett, surveyor to Lloyd's Register; and Mr. D. K. Blair, ex-surveyor to Lloyd's Register; Mr. W. Walsh, president of the Cooks' and Stewards' Union; Messrs. J. Smith, J. Dunlop, H. McDougall, Duncan (H.M. Customs), A.- Mack, A. L. Smith, G. Albertson, J. Scott, G. " Haslett, 'C. Grant, G. R. Taylor, J. C. Pilcher, and W. Dalton. Most of the Rangatira's engineers were also present, as well as a number of seamen, engine-room hands, and stewards from that ship.
