WOMEN'S 'SEMI-FINALS WIMBLEDON TOURNAMENT MALFROY WINS TWICE United I'rcss Association—By Elcctric Telegraph— Copyright. (Received June 29, 11.15 a.m.) LONDON, June 28. Of.the four Americans who entered the quarter-finals of the women's singles in the Wimbledon lawn tennis tournament three reached the semifinals, namely, Mrs. Wills-Moody and Misses Marble and Jacobs. The fourth semi-finalist is Mrs. Sperling, of Denmark. Miss Marble, using every stroke gracefully, eliminated Mrs. Mathieu (France). The defeat of Mrs. Fabyan by Mrs. Sperling prevented all the semi-finnlists being Americans. Mrs. Fabyan led 4-1 in the second set, but Mrs. Sperling's persistent retrieving triumphed.
The women's doubles quarter-final match between Miss Marble and Mrs. Fabyan and the two Australians, Misses Wynne and Coyne, was the best women's doubles match of the tournament so far. All played a most attractive all-court game with much brilliant volleying. In the men's doubles C. E. Malfroy (New Zealand), who is playing with M. Cejnar (Czechoslovakia), survived the fourth round.
