HUTT VALLEY TRAMPING CLUB

Reference to the successful skiing season in 1937 is made in the annual report of the Hutt Valley Tramping Club Favoured with comparatively good* weather, steady progress in technique was made by toe clubs skiers. The club again won toe Wellington inter-club ski competitions at Kime, H. Tilbury and A. F. Thomas being prominent. The club ski championships were won by H. Tilbury and Miss E. Smith. Tilbury also won the Mitchell Cup race on Mount Ruapehu and accompanied toe New Zealand ski team to Kosciusko. Mention is made of the loss to the club through the transfers of F. K. Akhurst and C. Taylor. The weekly trips were well patronised, and most districts in the Tararua and Rimutaka Ranges were covered during the year. New country was broken on the Castlepoint trips, when climbs were made of the Maungapakeha and Tinui Taipos. With the increased interest in skiing it was inevitable that the ordinary club trips would experience a falling-off during the winter months, but with a view to meeting the position the committee has arranged more skiing trips than usual for the present winter and also a number of Sunday trips. Social items, club equipment, affiliation, and executive changes are dealt \vitl\,in the report, and the club's finances are shown to be in a very healthy state* The annual meeting will be held this evening. . ■
