"GODLIKE WRATH"
IN PRAISE OF HITLER
"Never before have so many happy people celebrated the Fuhrer's birthday," declared Dr. Goebbels in a broadcast on the eve of the forty-ninth anniversary of Herr Hitler's birthday, reports the "Manchester Guardian." "All the 75,000,000 of Greater Germany stand before him in gratitude, and millions and millions of our racial comrades beyond our frontiers join with them," he said.
Referring to the ' day when "the treacherous Schuschnigg spoke in Inrtsbruck on that Wednesday in March," the Propaganda Minister went on— "With long strides the Fu'nrer. walked up and down, and over his face played godlike wrath and righteous indignation. ... At that time the people had no idea of what was happening. They walked through the Wilhelmplatz as if nothing had occurred and threw high and respectful glances at the Chancellery." Dr. Goebbels affirmed that the most profound difference between democracies and authoritarian regimes was that the greater the danger the more democracy tended to retire before it. For authoritarian States the reverse was true. The Minister concluded:— ' "We unite in praying to the Almighty that He may grant the Fuhrer many more years of health, strength, and protection. .» . . We love the Fuhrer. . . . He is our Hitler."
