BEGGING THE QUESTION
(To the Editor.)
Sir,—l should have thought Mr. Savage would have given a better reply to your representative when asked the pertinent question suggested by Mr. Mazengarb instead of avoiding the issue by saying "Who is Mr. Mazengarb in any case?" From your report it appeared to me that Mr. Mazengarb gave concise proof of the intentions of the Labour Party regarding nationalisation of land, etc. If Mr. Savage could have shown that the intentions of his party had altered in any way he would have done so. Obviously they have not. The Labour Party still desires to take over all the freehold lands "as soon as practicable" and rent them out again. Mr. Savage was simply begging the question by attempting a cheap sneer at one of his foremost critics. —I am, etc., TBUTHFUL.
