LOCAL LEAGUE GAMES
PETONE TEAM'S SUCCESS At Newtown Park last Saturday, Is one of the best wet-weather garnet witnessed in Wellington Rugby League, Petone defeated St. George, 13-5, and assumed the role of championship leaders. In all phases of play Petone were superior. St. George did not impress as in former games, the forward* failed to play with customary fire and vigour, and the rearguard did not sparkle. With only two games to plajr and these against the bottom teams, a Petone success seems likely. R. Perkinson, the Petone full-back, la a venturesome type of player, quickfooted, and very elusive. His catching of a greasy and sodden ball was faultless. Patrick made excellent openings, but repeatedly ran too far with the ball and was smothered. The Petone fiveeighth would develop first-class form if he cultivated the "team-work idea." For all-round ability and consistently good form, A. Swanberg, St George lock forward, is outstanding. H« is the best loose forward in Wellington. L. Simons took up the full-back position for St. George, and gave a highclass display. As a colt Simons was one of the best full-backs in Auckland Rugby League, and was highly praised by visiting Australian teams. He subsequently lost all form and for the past two seasons has played as a secondrow forward.
