INDIAN TEAM

INTEREST IN TOUR

While the absence of his Highness the Nawab of Manavadar from the ranks of his team now in New Zealand may have detracted to some extent from the interest in the tour, the excellent record made by the team to date has appealed to all followers of the stick game. The local team playing the Indians at the Basin Reserve today have been training assiduously for the match in the hope that they may wipe out the defeats inflicted by the Indian Army side in 1926 and by the All-India team in 1935. The Manavadar State team is considered to be one of the strongest sides in India, and very few teams in that country have such a fine record. To this team has been added S. M. Hussian, who is perhaps the only example in India of a man who has represented his country in two major games in one year. In 1934-35 he toured South Africa with the Indian Soccer team, and was later on a member of the AllIndia team which toured New Zealand. He is an Olympic Games representative. Peter Fernandez will be remembered as one of the outstanding players in the 1935 All-India team, and his runs down the line and masterful stick work will long be remembered. He too is an Olympic Games representative. Feroz Khan has represented India in the Olympic Games, and is said to be the best centre-forward in India after Dhyan Chand, and is the leader of the Bombay Customs hockey XI team, famous throughout India.
