The Minister of Agriculture (the Hon. W. Lee Martin) is to open the Taumarunui A. and P. Show this evening. He will return to Wellington tomorrow morning.
Mr. Dudley R. Porter, 8.C0m., A.P.A.N.Z., A.1.A.N.Z., has been appointed secretary of the Dominion Farmers' Institute, Ltd., a position formerly held by the late Mr. E. C. Jack. Mr. W. Hill, president of the New South Wales Rugby Union, on whom the honour of M.B.E. was conferred in the Australian King's Birthday honours, is to be sent the congratulations of the New Zealand Rugby Union. Reference to the decoration received by Mr. Hill was made by the chairman (Mr. S. S. Dean) at Tast night's meeting of the N.Z.R.F.U. executive. Mr. Oscar Garden, formerly of Christchurch, who £ew from England to Australia in 1930, has passed his chief navigator's examination. Mr. Garden has been engaged in commercial flying for some time and is employed by British Airways, Limited. Lieutenant H. G. A. Lewis, R.N., has been appointed to fill the position to be vacated on H.M.S. Philomel when Lieutenant P. R. W. McMaster returns to England. Lieutenant Lewis will sail for New Zealand by the Rangitane on July 21. At present he is on H.M.S. Hyperion. Mr. A. Russell, 8.D.5., first assistant dental surgeon at the Wellington Public Hospital, has' been appointed senior dental surgeon of the Christ* church Public Hospital. Mr. J. S. Barton, Lower Hutt, ha» intimated to the Hutt Valley.Horticultural Society his willingness to accept the presidency of the society.
