VALENCIA, June 22,
The British steamer Thorpeness and the Greek steamer Sunion were bombed and sunk by rebel aeroplanes in a raid early this morning. The Thorpeness was previously bombed on June 20 at Tarragonna, I when seven mepbers of the crew were killed.
Captain Ormode, skipper of the Thorpeness, said in an interview:— "I was standing on the bridge when an aeroplane swooped down and a bomb hit us amidships, shattering the boat on the port side and ripping out the steamer's side. Twenty-five of the crew scrambled into the other boat, and I, with the remainder, leapt into the water with-lifebelts on and swam for three hours, when the Sunion picked us'up and set us ashore. I had i scarcely been landed when the Sunion I was struck. It is an outrage that after bombing the Thorpeness the aeroplane circled round machine-gunning her decks. The Thorpeness was anchored miles from the wharves preparatory to unloading a cargo of grain. A Chinese member of the crew is missin Over a hundred bombs were dropped on Barcelona early this morning.! There were heavy casualties in tnej working-class districts.
