INCREASED TONNAGE "■ i The total tonnage of vessels arriving at Wellington last month was 48,726 tons greater than the total for May, 1937. In his report, presented to' the Wellington Harbour Board last evening, the chairman (Mr. C. M. Turrell) said that the shipping and cargo statistics for last month, when compared with May, 1937, showed that the tonnage of trading vessels arriving had increased from 336,759 net tons to 385,485 tons, or by 48,726 tons.'The cargo handled had increased from 193,662 tons to 204,204 tons, or by 10,542 tons. The principal increases were in general cargo imports from coastal and Australian ports (6476 tons), general cargo transhipments (4246 tons), exports of general cargo to coastal and Australian ports (8152 tons), and wool and hemp shipments (11,137 bales). Decreases were shown in imports of oils I in bulk (7503 tons) and butter, cheese, I and frozen meat shipments (3052 tons).
