NEW CARGO STEAMER
The Union Steam Ship Company's new cargo steamer Waipori, which is at present being built at the New-castle-on-Tyne yards of Messrs. Hawthorn, Leslie and Co., is expected to leave the United Kingdom towards the end of October. She is intended for the general cargo and coal trade between South Island ports and Australia and will have a tonnage of 4400 and a speed of 13 knots. Captain A. S. Dalgliesh, now master of the company's Waiana, has been selected to proceed to the United Kingdom to take command of the new vessel. He will leave by the Aorangi from Auckland on July 12 and will be accompanied by Mr. D. J. McKenzie, late of the Kauri, who is to join the Waipori as chief officer. Mr. W. D. Taylor has been appointed chief engineer and left by' the Niagara from Auckland on June 14.
