Owing to an engine defect, the southern express was 44 minutes late in arriving at Christchurch last night, and the Wahine did not leave Lyttelton for Wellington until 9.20 o'clock, nevertheless she arrived here today at her usual time, 7 a.m. To transfer passengers from the southern express, a relief train was sent from Ashburton to Hindi.
