GENERAL ELECTION
CLOSING OF GENERAL ROLLS
The Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage) announced today that, in accordance with the provisions of the Electoral Act, the general, rolls to be used for the .General Election this year will close on June 30, and that those persons who are qualified for registration as electors and who have not yet. sent in their applications should do so without further, delay.
Forms of application for enrolment are available from registrars of electors, and all post offices.
Immediately after June 30, a start will be made on the printing of the rolls, and copies should be available for public information towards the end of July. Names received after June 30 will be placed on the supplementary rolls and the compilation of these will proceed until the writs for the General Election are issued. .
BAY OF ISLANDS SEAT
After consultation with the affiliated organisations in the Bay of Islands, Mr. C. W. Boswell has been endorsed by the national executive'of the New Zealand Labour Party as the candidate for the Bay of Islands seat.
Mr. Boswell has been the headmaster of the KawaKawa District High School since 1935 and a member of the executive of the New Zealand Educational Institute for the past four years, and was re-elected at the annual meeting last month, Born in the Coromandel district, he has held office as president of the Auckland Assistant.Masters' Association, vice-president of the New Zealand E.M.A., and. for many years was an executive member of the Auckland District Educational Institute. He is well known in the Bay of Islands electorate, and is a" member of the executive of the Kawa Kawa Chamber of Commerce.
