UNUSUAL TRAFFIC CHARGE

The first.case of its' kind to be decided in Wellington, and probably only the second in New Zealand, was argued before Messrs. A. Longmore and J. L. Arcus, J.P.s, in the Magistrate's Court today.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to negligently obstructing the free use of a public place—Cuba Street—by opening the door of his motor-car. The police maintained that the defendant negligently opened the right-hand front door of his car when it was parked and that it was struck by a cyclist who was coming along the street from the rear of the vehicle.

The defendant said'that when the door was struck it was open no further than the edge of the running-board of the car.

After the evidence had been heard the Justices convicted the defendant nnd ordered him to pay costs.
