WRESTLING
BOUT AWARDED TO MEEHAN (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, June 19. There was an abrupt termination to the professional wrestling contest at the Town Hall on Saturday evening between Pat Fraley and Pat Meehan, the ■ referee disqualifying the former in the seventh round. ; v After a series of elhbw jolts Fraley quickly tripped his opponent and caught him in a flying toehold. Meehan lost no time in tapping the mat as a sign of submission, and the referee patted Fraley on the back to indicate that a fall had been awarded. Fraley, however, continued to apply pressure and the referee had to force the men apart. Meehan lay on the mat holding his leg, which appeared to have been injured. The referee consulted Meehan and then awarded him the decision. This met with a very mixed reception, Fraley's supporters evidently being of the opinion that if any disqualification was merited it should have been done immediately and not several seconds after the incident occurred. The first fall was obtained by Meehan in the sixth round. He had Fraley in difficulties with a hammer lock, the ropes saving the latter. A second hammer lock was immediately applied, combined with a wrist lock. Fraley submitted and then remonstrated with the referee for not having had him released sooner.
