However, in spite of the tirifftVoUrable conditions, there were srfjme very keen contests and in several of the watches the teams • rose superior to the heavy going to turn on some delightful football. Poneke are now at the top of the first division with 12 points. Before Saturday's games they shared first place with Petone, but Petone were (defeated in an excellent wet weather game at Athletic Park by Athletic, who did nil their si'oflflg ifl the first spell. Irl the second half Petone went better and finished up with a deficit of only three points. The game between Poneke and Marist Brothers' Old Bdys at PetOrte Whs eveh closer s Poheke scraping home by a point. Marist pJayed well. Wellington suffered a set-back from Wellington College Old Bdys, whio now appear to be on the up grade. / St. College Old Boys and Eastbourne are the leading teams in the second'division chaiiipionship and as such have qualifor promotion to the first division. Their place irl the second division will be taken by Onslow and Marist Brothers' Old Boys, the leading senior B teams.
