KAIFENG THREATENED
JAPANESE ADVANCE ANXIETY IN HANKOW HANKOW, June 5. A Japanese advance is again threatening Kaifeng. Twelve Japanese warships, escorted by aeroplanes, steamed up the Yangtze from Tatung, apparently intending to attack Anking, capital of Anhw.ei. _ The Foreign Residents' Association has advised foreigners to leave Hankow. In a message from London on June 3 it was stated that according to the Shanghai correspondent of "The Times" the Japanese were fighting in the Lanfeng and Kaifeng areas in an endeavour to rectify their line preparatory to a general advance upon the Peking-Hankow- railway against
fierce Chinese resistance.
