BEEF QUOTA

HIGHEST ON RECORD

FOR THE THIRD QUARTER

The Minister of Marketing (the Hon. Walter Nash) announced yesterday that the quantities of beef to arrive in the United Kingdom for the third quarter of this year were the highest on record for that quarter. The New Zealand Government's policy, he said, was to expand exports wherever there was a need for more of our products and a reasonable return to producers could be secured. The Government had kept in close touch with the Dominion's representatives in London who had secured after negotiation the right to land in the July-September quarter of 1938 maximum amounts of beef as follows: — Type of beef. Tons. Chilled 7,200 Frozen quarters 5,600 Boneless 6,200 k Veal 1.400 Beef and veal offals ....... 800 Total 21.200 Not only the total, but the individual amounts also, especially of chilled beef, were very satisfactory, concluded Mr. Nash.
