WANGANUI'S NEW STAND
The Wanganui Jockey Club has decided to erect a new public stand to accommodate 600 people. The club has authorised the preparation of plans for the structure, and an estimate of the cost is to be made immediately.
In addition to seating accommodation for 600 in the stand, the front of it will be set out with concrete steps which will provide standing accommodation for a further 1000 people. There will be refreshment rooms, a public bar, cloakrooms, and the necessary offices incorporated in the building. Work on the new structure will start immediately, the plans and estimates having been approved by the committee.
The additions to the steeplechasing ranks this winter have been relatively few. The latest recruit to the game is that good hurdler John Charles, who figures as topweight in Saturday's Napier Steeplechase. As this horse has been hunted a lot he should know how to jump the big fences. He has I been off the scene since his thirds in the two brush hurdles at the last New [Zealand Cup Meeting.
