PHYSICAL EDUCATION
PROGRESS IN AUSTRALIA
Having as one of his main objects an inquiry into problems arising from the complete reorganisation of physical education in. New South Wales, Mr. G. R. Thomas, Director and Under-Secre-tary of Public Education of New South Wales, passed through' Auckland by the Monterey yesterday on his way to attend an international conference arranged by the Progressive Education Association. -Physical education, said Mr. Thomas, was now regarded in New South Wales as being of considerable importance. A director of physical education was being advertised for by the Government, said Mr. Thomas. It would be the duty of the director to take charge of the reorganisation of the physical training curriculum on the professional side. His Government was aiming to cover the physical life of the citizen from childhood to manhood. It was a huge undertaking, and the pre-school child and the post-school adult physical training brought forward many new and difficult problems.
