GREEK BISHOP
WELLINGTON FAREWELL
During the past fortnight members of the Greek community in Wellington have had with them the Greek Bishop, his Grace the Archbishop of Australia, the Most Rev. Timotheos Evangelinithis, who, in addition to delivering addresses, 'has assisted at christening and marriage services. Prior to his departure for Auckland last night he was farewelled at the station by members of the Greek community. He will return to Australia by the Niagara, which leaves Auckland today. . During his' stay in Wellington he was entertained at ' social «venmgs with Greek dancing and folk, songs, and a special film, depicting various phases of Greek life, was shown. The Bishop addressed the well-filled hall before the film was shown. Scenes in the film included famous archaeological sites —the ruins of various temples of • antiquity, among which was the Parthenon on the Acropolis of Athens; the plain of Olympia, where the Olympic Games were first inaugurated in 776 8.C.; and the vale of Tempe, Mt. Olympus.. Also shown were the modem cities of present-day Greece—Athens, Salonika, Patr&s, Sparta—and the lonian Islands. The agricultural life of the community, with its principal products, was shown; also the reclamation and irrigation works of Macedonia; the International Olympic Congress in Athens, and the various festivals held for the occasion. The Archbishop, when he visits New Zealand next, year, will endeavour to bring with him further films relating to Greek life.
