A WIN FOR PETONE

Despite the .final score of 4-1, the* game between Hospital'and Petone at Porirua on Saturday, was. a very closely-contested one,' and was easily the best game seen on, the . Hospital ground this season. The Hospital team, which has been altered quite a bit since the beginning of the season, prevented Petone from developing their full combination until quite late in the game. The score was 1-0 in favour of the visitors until half-way through the 1 second spell. The first half was an even tussle between two teams which seemed about evenly matched. Both sets of backs stood up to a fairly severe test. The Petone forwards were a shade faster than those of Hospital, which gave them a slight advantage, but it was not until near the end of the half that the Petone line broke through. White scored from close in. The visitors kept up the pressure for the rest of the half, but did not come within accurate shooting distance. Both sides missed narrowly early in the. second half with movements which should have resulted in a score. Petone failed largely through . over-keenness, and Hospital missed through, lack of combination, and speed. A fast raid by Leslie gave White his chance to score again for Petone half-way through the spell. Hospital again missed a score by the narrowest of margins, but the Petone scoring machine was in full working order. Though play was still a shade in Hospital's favour, Leslie registered, and White headed the ball in for his third score. Hospital's point came 1 from a penalty by Jeffery. The game ended with the score: Petone 4, [Hospital 1.
