SCOTTISH SCHOOL AWARD

The Otaki Shield, awarded annually to the pupil 6f the Robert Gordons College, Aberdeen, who has proved pre-eminent In character, leadership, and athletics during the year, has been won this year by Douglas P. Fox, a pupil of division six. The shield carries with it a free return passage to New Zealand. The shield was presented to the college by relatives ,of the late Captain Archibald Bisset Smith, V.C., a pupil of the college from 1893 to 1895. Captain Smith commanded the Otaki in her historic fight against the German raider Moewe in March, 1917. The Otaki belonged to the New Zealand Shipping Company, which each year gives a free return trip to the Dominion to the winner of the shield.
It has not yet been decided when this year's winner will make the journey.
An African pilgrim has just reached Jiddah, Red Sea port—after travelling for 90 years. He began his journey from Kano, Western Africa; took 50 yews to reach Khartoum (just before the death of General Gordon); now 120 years old, the pilgrim.hopes to return home—by air.
