VETERANS PARADE
VEREENIGING DAY
That the spirit of comradeship born of the South African War still exists was shown yesterday afternoon, when over fifty South African War veterans paraded to commemorate Vereeniging 'Day and remember their comrades who 1 are gone. The band of the Wellington Regiment paraded to supply appropriate music and the band and veterans made an impressive picture. Led by the band, the parade, which was under the command of Captain J. J. Clark, marched to Queen Victoria's statue in Cambridge Terrace, where a wreath to the memory of comrades was placed on the plinth, the memory of the Queen who was on the Throne when the veterans were in South Africa being honoured at the same time. After the wreath had been placed "Abide With Me" was sung, and then the parade marched to the City Mission in Taranaki Street, where the veterans attended a service conducted by Chaplain-Colonel D. C. Bates, who was a chaplain to the Forces in South Africa. '
