LORD BALDWIN'S PIPE
* Earl Baldwin recently sent one of hit well-known cherry wood pipes to I Slough platelayer, James Herbert, 59, with whom he talked a few days before when his train had stopped in the station, says the "Daily Telegraph and Morning Post." Mr. Herbert was working with a gang on the line. On looking up he saw Lord Baldwin leaning cut of the carriage window, smokiuf a aew rosewood pipe. "I see you have n Jtew pipe, sir," he said. "What happened to the old pipe?" "I have finished with that," Lord Baldwin said with a laugh. "Would you like it?" Mr. Herbert said he would, and the train left. Later a package arrived at Slough station addresed to the stationmaster. It contained a cherrywood pipe for Mr. Herbert, who said he was "flabbergasted" when" the gift arrived. The pipe had obviously had good use from Lord Baldwin.
