KARORI CLUB FUNCTION

The Karori Cricket Club's annual social function was held last night, there being a large attendance of members, supporters, and. representatives of other clubs. The president, Mr. J. Gallagher, was in the chair. During the evening several speakers referred to the activities of the club, and pointed with satisfaction to what had been achieved and to the encouraging signs ahead.

Mr. A. Ronaldson, referring to the [ performances of some of the club's [teams, said that the club had no cause |to worry over the fact that its senior team had finished in bottom place on the championship ladder. The club had done well in other grades; in fact, its second eleven had won the second grade championship. The personnel of the seniors was such that the side was worthy of more success than it had achieved. Mr. J. Russell spoke of the fine club spirit, and made special mention of the way in which the younger members of the club had turned up to the practices. A review of the club's history was given-by the president, who also mentioned the wealth of talent in the ranks of Karori players and the keen interest shown by the club's supporters.

The improved state of the ground and wickets, with special reference to the senior wicket, was a subject of tributes by speakers to the excellent work which had been carried out by the custodian, Mr. J. Stack.

During the evening trophies were presented as follows: —J. B. Jordan trophy (for best individual performance), J. Coupland (119 v. Wellington); J. Gallagher trophy (senior catching), A. G. Wells; N. J. Butcher trophy, M. Browne (best senior all-rounder); Gallagher trophy (catching, lower grades), W. H. Cudby; D. R. McGavin trophy (best all-round performance, lower grades), D. Keenan; L. J. Picot trophy (best all-round performance, second grade), G. McGavin; club trophy (most improved player), W. Phypers.

Among the toasts honoured were:— "Ourselves" (proposed by Mr. J. Russell and replied to by Messrs. A. Ronaldson and C. Owen), "Friends and Supporters" (by Mr. I. Nimmo, Mr. B. Rundle replying), "Our Opponents (by Mr. A. M. Hollings, Mr. R. Morgan .replying), "The Umpires" (by Mr. J. Standidge, reply by Mr. Harris-Daw), and "The Artists" (by Mr. L. C. Nimmo). Items by Messrs. E. Dean, F." Cunliffe. H. McDonald, P. Isbister, G. Margitieh, and others were greatly appreciated. _ ' j
