TRENTHAM GALLOPS

SMALL MANAWATU TEAM (By "Rangatira.") Trentham stables have only five horses engaged *at the Manawatu Meeting on Saturday, and it is possible that one of those will not be making the trip. Red Sun, Southern Blood, Arctic King, and Liane are already booked to go, but a decision about Alunga will not be made till this evening. The work on the tracks this morning was of a light nature, what galloping there was being done on the inside of the trial grass, which is in excellent order at present.

Red Sun (M. Reardon) was schooled over his usual five fences, taking on one brush twice, and he gave a faultless exhibition of clean jumping at a fast pace. Afterwards he did a round of pacing, coming home the last halfmile in 51sec, which is evidence of his fitness. He will be ridden by C. Thomson on Saturday.

Southern Blood (T. Young) was very scratchy when starting off a round of pacing, but he moved better when .warmed up. Otherwise he appears to have recovered from the injuries he suffered at the Dannevirke Meeting. L Rohloff will, again have the mount on him at Awapuni, where he won at the March Meeting. ■

Liane (P. Burgess) was sent seven furlongs alone, taking 47sec for the first three furlongs at a swinging pace and then coming home the last halfmile in 50 3-ssec. She will be ridden on Saturday by Burgess.

Arctic King (S. Wilson) was worked over six furlongs, taking lmin 20 1-5 sec for the full distance and 53sec for the last half-mile. He has done well since Dannevirke and he is expected to run a solid race on Saturday, when Wilson will again ride him.

' Alunga (A. W. Sim) was going along smoothly half a length in front of Galteemore (A. E. Bennet), after running six furlongs in lmin 18sec, the last half-mile in 50 2-ssec. The chestnut, however, has had a lot of racing lately, and with more to come it may be decided to miss the one day at Manawatu. ' There was not much other work of a serious nature. Royal Highness, ,who has joined R. C. Penman's team, was taken quietly over five hurdles by M. Gordon and he jumped them very big. This aged son of Royal Picture is an older half-brother to Seyfried, but he has shown little form to date, and so his owner (Mr. C. Brickland) has decided to have him tried as a jumper. Last winter he had experience in the hunting field.

Besides Arctic King, S. Wilson will be riding Great Hope or Erebus, Warehi, and Gay Molly on Saturday. P. Burgess, in addition to Liane, has been engaged for Lone Raider, Ika, and Min Lu.

WAREHI GOES WELL

AWAPUNI TRACK GALLOPS

(By Telegraph—Press Association.) PALMERSTON N., This Day. At Awapuni this morning some interesting work was done in preparation for the Manawatu Meeting. The course proper was open, the flags being wide out, and the plough, which was in good order, was also extensively used. The first pair out on the course proper were Cuddler .and Prediction, who were sent over half a mile, running the first two furlongs in 26sec, and the full Journey in 54 2-ssec. On the plough, Great Hope and Erebus went five furlongs in lmin 4 4-ssec, the first three in just under

> 39sec. Sky Full and Hirangi were given a ■ mile task, the last half-mile being run . in 52 4-ssec. Sporting Gift dashed over 1 half a mile in 52sec, the last two furlongs in 26sec. One of the most interesting gallops was that in which Warehi, Aero Lad, and Aurora's Love participated. The trio went a brisk seven furlongs, the first three furlongs in 43sec, and the full distance in lmin 31 l-ssec. Warehi was well clear of Aero Lad at the finish, with Aurora's Love about two lengths further back. Bluffer and Quadroon were partner's in a five-furlong sprint on the course proper. The pace quickened after the first furlong; and they covered the last half-mile in 53sec. Tail Light and Pango were associated over six furlongs on the plough, which took lmin 18sec. The two Palmerston North Handicap candidates, Old Surrey and Conveyer, went seven furlongs on the course proper, the last six in lmin 26 sec. They were both going well at the finish, Conveyer being slightly ahead of his partner. Ika and Entheos were sent over a round on the hurdle track, and except that Entheos hit one fence rather heavily, both jumped well. Merry Thought and Royal Limond galloped a mile, the last six furlongs in lmin 31see. Royal Limond was going the better at the finish. Gation, an arrival from Taumarunui, went five furlongs in lmin 12 l-ssec. Although times were not secured, Dainty Sue and High Peer did a particularly smart half-mile. Gay Molly and Porotiti were sent over six furlongs on the plough, doing the distance in lmin 27sec. The former looks particularly well. Noisy Night and Selkirk went five furlongs, finishing on strongly after running the last half-mile in 52 l-ssec.
