HUTT AGAIN
WIN OVER COLLEGE 0.8. ; Hutt, at. the Recreation. . Ground, showed 'distinct superiority over .Wellington .College Old Boys. Playing with the advantage of a fair breeze in the first spell, Hutt ran up 11 pdints, and in. doing so made much more use of the wind than did Old Boys after the change over. Territorially there was little between the teams, much of the play, of a loose character, taking place between the packs outside the twenty-fives, but .Hutt made , fewer handling errors and -their players ran straighter on attack. The Old Boys' defence revealed one or two weak spots. ' ' ' Except 'during the early stages Old Boys had ;nost'of the ball from the set scrums, and the Hutt forwards .were shaded in the line-puts, but when ill possession the Old Boys' rearguard could not penetrate with much degree of success. The only . exception was Baldwin's neat side-stepping of Burton, an effort which gave A. Wright his try in the second half. The Hutt backs, on the other hand, made more of the opportunities which came their way, with Sargisson the bright star directing operations and varying the attack judiciously. During the first spell occurred the highlight of the match. This was a spectacular try by Corkin for Hutt, after Sargisson had spreadeagled the defence. Fine anticipation was showri by Corkin, who raced up on the inside to take a reverse pass. Douglas converted this try and kicked a penalty goal. Earlier in the spell, Kyle followed up a kick by Evans and touched down. Hutt led 11-0 at half-time, Old Boys opened their account with a try by A. Wright after Baldwin had made the opening and later Baldwin kicked a penalty goal, but m the meantime, Hutt. had added a furtbei try after a piece of solo play by Kemr from a loose scrum inside the Olc Boys' quarter. „, _ The teams were:—Old Boys: Link later; R. Wright, Baldwin. A. Wright Gray, Reynolds; Rainbird; Worboys Bydder, Short, V. Gotlieb, C. Gotlieb Hardv, Miller, and Amies. Hutt: Doug las; Gunn. Burton, Kyle; Evans. Sar sisson: Kilmister; Grant, Potter Corkin, Kemp, Foley, Flanagan, Blair end Cassidy. _ The referee was Mr. A. C. Swan.
