FAREWELL TEA PARTY

On Saturday afternoon in the Palm Lounge of the Hotel St. George Miss Nellie Smith gave a party to bid farewell to Miss Barbara Collins and Mrs. Wembley, who will leave New Zealand by the Arawa on May 21 for England, where Miss Collins will join her brother, Mr. J. W. Collins, retiring New Zealand Trade Commissioner in Canada. There were thirty guests, and they were entertained in a screenedoff portion of the lounge, which was decorated with autumn foliage. After tea had been served Mrs. Palmer, accompanied by Miss Spink, sang several solos, and Miss Heketa two Maori songs. "Auld Lang Syne" and the Maori song of farewell were also sung. Miss Collins received presents as tokens of farewell from her friends. She was wearing a lightweight winecoloured woollen frock with a shoulder posy of spring flowers. Mrs. Wembley's smart suit was of black velvet with which she wore a wide-brimmed black hat and a posy of red roses, and the hostess wore a black tailleur and fox furs. Others present were Mesdames Heaphy, Flintoff, Oakes, Hall, Smith, Glass, A. Palmer, Whitt, White, Jansen, Fuller, Homblow, Saunders, Cross, Stinson, Freeman, Robinson, Palmer, and Misses Collins, Heketa» Blucher, and Mitchell. MANNEQUIN PARADE For the purpose of strengthening the resources of the Wellington City SubCentre of the Red Cross Society a group of interested friends has arranged a mannequin parade to take place at the Majestic Cabaret, Willis Street, on Wednesday next at 2.30 p.m. During the afternoon an excellent programme of instrumental and vocal items will be rendered, to be followed by afternoon tea. An advertisement gives other details. BRITISH MUSIC SOCIETY PIANO GROUP A most enjoyable programme of pianoforte music was presented by the members of the piano group of the British Music Society in the group's ■ studio recently, Miss Dorothy Downing being leader for the evening. The subjects chosen were "two-piano arrangements" and "modern American composers."
