CIVIC ELECTIONS
MR. SAVAGE UPHELD
DID NOT TAKE PART
(By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, This Day. In his denial that he had taken part in last week's local elections, the Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage) was today upheld by the Auckland branch of the Labour Parly. Attention had been drawn to newspaper advertisements published a week ago containing a message under Mr. Savage's name urging citizens to work 'and vote for all Labour candidates. However, it was revealed today that the quotations were taken from a message issued by Mr. Savage on the occasion of the local polls three years ago, whe# he was still Leader of the Opposition and that they were used last week without his knowledge.' He had been asked earlier for an election message, but gave a definite reply that he did not wish to take any part in local elections. The local Labour publicity committee thought no harm could be done nor an objection raised by reiterating a three- , year-old statement.
