FURTHER CONTRACTS WELLINGTON ACTIVITY BIG EXTENSION Further substantial housing contracts approved by Cabinet include those far the erection of 135 State dwellings in the Wellington, Khandallah, and Lower Hutt areas. Mr. J. A. Lee, Parligimentary Under-Secretary in Charge of Housing, today gave details of the contracts. , In the Wellington district a special two-house unit contract, for erection at Johnsonville, has been awarded to Mr. L. Arcus. The Fletcher Construction Company, Ltd., have secured contracts involving the erection of 49 houses at Khandallah. The Fletcher Construction Company, Ltd., have also secured contracts fbr the erection of seven single-house units and four two-house units at Strathmore Park, Mixamar, while Messrs. Turksma. and Reynard have obtained a contract for the erection of seven single-house units and one two-house unit. Messrs. Wilfred E. Jones, Ltd., have secured contracts for the erection of eleven houses at Lower Hutt, Messrs. Grimes and Browning have obtained contracts for the erection of twelve houses, and Mr. H. J. Corskie for the erection of four houses. The Fletcher Construction Company, Ltd., have also secured contracts for the erection of 33 houses at Lower Hutt. In addition an area of land in Cemetery Road, Lower Hutt, sufficient for approximately 18 houses, and an area in Trinity Avenue, Lower Hjutt, sufficient to accommodate eleven houses, have been acquired by the Government. CONTRACTS ELSEWHERE. Mr. R. H. Crozier has secured contracts for tha erection of thirteen single-house units and one two-house unit, at Palmerston North. Mr. F. A. Orr has secured contracts involving the erection of eleven singlehouse units, and one two-house unit, at Pahiatua. Small contracts, involving in the aggregate 51 dwellings, have been approved in Auckland, Paeroa, Thames, Lyttelton, and Kaiapoi, and further land has been purchased in Auckland, Opunake, Christchurch, and Dunedtn.
