"THE MERCHANT OF VENICE."
The heavy booking at the D.I.C- indicates the great interest aroused by the production of "The Merchant of Venice" at the Concert Chamber on Tuesday evening next by the Wellington Repertory Theatre. Of all Shakespeare's dramas this is the one which probably makes the greatest appeal to playgoers. It has comedy, tragedy, and delightful fantasy, and the settings in Venice and Belmont add to its attractiveness. The , picturesque Elizabethan costumes, made by Molne Cook, will be a feature of the production. The big cast has worked hard under Mr. W. S. Wauchop's direction for some months past, and those who have seen rehearsals predict a most successful performance. Special interest attaches to the appearance of Sinclair Ronald, as Portia, and L. J. Maule, as Shylock. The incidental song "Oh, Tell Me Where is Fancy Bred," will be sung by the boy soprano, Joseph Lyons. The season is limited to five nights and a matinee on Saturday, Maj^_2l ; __ i _ i^__>:=:
