RIVAL HIT BOOM
COSTLY RANDWICK PLUNGE (From "Vedette.") SYDNEY, May 5. Rival Hit was one of the biggest booms before he raced last Saturday at Randwick in the memory of pre-sent-day racegoers. Unfortunately for ' the backers who rushed in, the New Zealand-bred gelding put up a poor performance, being one of the last away, and not in a winning position at any stage. From the time of acceptances Rival Hit was a tremendous tip, and on the course interest increased, and everybody appeared to be waiting for the son of winning Hit. D. the rider; increased confidence, but the display was so poor that there will be no hurry to support him again. Rival Hit has been an unlucky horse since being brought to Australia, for he has had more than his share of minor mishaps, and in all has started only three times. WIN FOR JAMIESON. It is seldom that a winner from J, T. Jamieson's stable is acclaimed by the bookmakers, but that trainer did the ring a great turn at Randwick when his two-year-old Activity won at forlorn odds.
