MEDICAL CORPS BALL

2ND FIELD AMBULANCE SCENE OF VIVID COLOURS When the 2nd Field Ambulance of the New Zealand Medical Corps held their annual ball in St. Francis Hall last night the Officer Commanding, Lieutenant-Colonel F. Montgomery Spenber, and Mrs. Spencer were the official host and hostess. • They and many, others • had entertained large parties beforehand, with the result that frojn the beginning there was an air of easy festivity about the ball. The hall was bedecked with flags and bunting, and the members of the dance band, seated on. the stage;' were sur-; rounded by ferns. Ferns were also ar- \ ranged in all the alcoves and on the landings on the stairs. These decorations were in themselves sufficient to create a- gay scene, but when; the floor was crowded with dancers, many of the women, wearing particularly attractive frocks and their partners the uniforms of the various services, the effect was brilliant.. . The colours of the 2nd Field Ambulance are maroon, blue, and gold and a panel of streamers in. these colours formed a centrepiece down each of the long tables in the supper room. Pale green baskets and vases, filled v with masses of orange Iceland poppies, also decorated the room and tables, and orange paper napkins completed the bright colour scheme. Those on the committee responsible for the arrangements of the ball were Captain E. L; Button (chairman), Captain Allster Young, Lieutenant J. G. Oliver (secretary), Lieutenant J.-K. Elliott, .C.S.M.
