Special forecast for Wellington-

Light and variable winds, with nqrtherlies gradually predominating and increasing tomorrow. Weather fine and rather milder.

* The general forecast for the Dominion as a whole, issued at noon today for the ensuing twenty-four hours/is for light to moderate and variable winds over the North Island. Northerlies to north-westerlies will predominate in the South Island and will extend gradually northward. Their force will be mainly light to moderate, but at times in the far south winds will be strong. In the western and southern districts of the South Island the weather will become cloudy to overcast, with scattered rain in South Westland and in the.'far south. Otherwise it will be fine with rather milder temperatures. The. anticyclone cohering the Tasman Sea and New Zealand yesterday is moving slowly eastward. A slight disturbance in the south has caused cloudy to overcast weather from Dunedin southward, with rain in southern coastal areas. Elsewhere skie3* have been almost uniformly clear, and except in the far south winds have been light. Temperatures have continued low, and a number of frosts occurred last night. The weather in Auckland has been practically cloudless, with cool temperatures and light winds from the south-east or east.

Although cloudy at times, the weather in Wellington has been beautifully fine with scarcely any wind. Temperatures have been cool, and there was a- frost last night in parts of jthe city area. Yesterday's maximum and minimum temperatures were 55.2 and 42.5 degrees respectively, and 6.4 hours of bright sunshine were recorded.

Christchurch also had a clear and sunny day, winds being very light with north-easterlies predominating. Another frost was recorded this morning. In Dunedin the weather yesterday was clear and cool and almost "calm. This morning, however, it was overcast ,with a north-westerly breeze.
