AUSTRALIAN VISIT

I To assist in the selection of a Wellington badminton team to play the ! Australian side touring New Zealand at the end of June, the Wellington Association decided last night:to play ranking matches among top grade players of the city on May 18, May 23, June 1, June 3, arid Jime 7. Announcement of the players chosen to compete in the matches will be made before the weekend. I

The ranking matches will also have an effect on the., composition of the side to play in the -■ interproviricial tournament at Palmerston. North during the weekend of May 28. Teams from practically every North Island Association will compete at the tournament. , ' . i Entries v for the inter-club competition totalled four in the A grade, 13 in the B, and 13 in the C. Competitions will begin next Wednesday with a match yet to be. announced. The draw for the season's play will.be made by the association's inter-club sub-com-mittee within a few days. It Is ini tended, following an earlier decision kof the association; to hold a special meeting on May 25 to which captains and secretaries of each of the affiliated clubs will be invited for discussion of the conduct of the inter-club competitions this season and also for consideration of the Australian match with Wellington. Owing to the .inter-club competition and ranking matches, it was decided to refuse with regret'the application of a new cWb, Western/for a court at the Winter Show Building two nights of the week. Mr. A. H. Richards, vicepresident, notified his inability to act on the association's selection committee, - and Mr. T. P. McLean was ajfr. pointed in his place.
