The. Japanese have occupied part of the city, and now control all the coastal islands except Hainan.
The arrival of Chinese re|nforc»» led to heavy fighting.
Refugees are pouring in to the foreign concession at' Kulangsu, where 189 Britons and 36 Americans are safe. Two British and two American destroyers are standing* by.
