GENEVA, May 10.
The British delegate, Lord Halifax, in a statement to the League Council regarding the Anglo-Italian pact, declared that It was a contribution to world peace, thereby serving th« interests ol tiie League. M. Bonnet (France) said that he and the French Premier, M. Daladier, were satisfied with the value of the agreement' and hoped for a favourable Franco-Italian understanding to further the cause of peace. . M. Litvinoff (Soviet Russia) declared that in view of the important repercussions of the pacts on world problems, including that of 1 Abyssinia, he reserved his judgment. The Council, after hearing Dr. Wellington Koo concerning the use of poison gas in China, adjourned. The afternoon Council meeting was abandoned as the Abyssinians were not ready to state their case. ■ Haile Selassie's non-appearance at the sessions of the League Council is due to his ill health.
