BERLIN, May 10.
Herr Hitler was welcomed home from Italy this evening like a conquering hero. The Acting Chancellor, FieldMarshal Goering, had issued a proclamation calling on the people of Berlin to receive Herr Hitler with "jubilation and rejoicing knowing no bounds." Enormous crowds burst into cheering as the Fuhrer detrained and was greeted by Field-Marshal Goering, whereupon 400 Hitler Youth trumpeters blew a fanfare. Italian and German flags were everywhere, pylons were c * ow ] e "~ with fire, and searchlights flooded the streets through which the Fuhfrer drove amidst a blaze of light, and multi-coloured fireworks, saluting guns, and deafening "heils" accompanied the entry to the Chancellery. In order to avoid offending his hosts, Herr Hitler did not halt when crossing the South Tyrol, and crowds of Austrians merely had a glimpse of the speeding train. After passing through the Brenner Pass the train slowed down, enabling the crowds to see Herr Hitler, who appeared to be exceedingly sun-tanned and robust. Every station was decked with flowers, and Herr Hitler frequently alighted to receive addresses of loyalty.
