DISEASE AND FLOODS
LOSS BY FARMERS
AMENDED TAX RETURNS
SUGGESTED
(Special to tho "Evening Post.")
PALMERSTON N., This Day,
A suggestion that the Government should grant authority to fai'mers wh.> have suffered by the facial eczema in stock and also those who suffered stock losses through the Hawke's Bay floods to make amended income tax returns, was made at yesterday's meeting of the Wellington centra! executive of the Farmers' Union. Mr. A. Campbell stated that any profits the farmers concerned might have made for the twelve months ended March 31 would be wiped out by the huge losses suffered. Mr. D. G. Gordon suggested that in the event of the not conceding the proposal, farmers should be made aware of the fact that they can obtain permission to make their returns cove? a period of fifteen months instead of. twelve. If that were done they could set off the losses sustained during the last two months. Mr. L. Hammond said that if the proposals were not acceptable, the Minister might be approached to defer payment of the income tax for a period of three years. The meeting adopted Mr. Campbell's suggestion.
