WELLINGTON BURNS CLUB
On Monday the Wellington Burns Club held its monthly meeting in Nimmo's Hall.-. There was a good attendance of members and friends, among whom were "visitors from the South Island. Mr. D, McLaren, vice-patron, occupied the chair.
Mr. E. B. Sharp opened at the piano, contributing a solo. Miss B. McKinley (soprano) rendered the solos "Maori Poi Dancfc" 'and "Open Your Window to the Morn," and by request she contributed two other, songs' later on. Mr. Mayo (tenor) sang the S9IO "Mary. The company then joined in .community singing, led by Mr. Mayo. A quintet consisting of Mesdames Wright, Maude. Proctor; Adams, and Miss Pole harmoniously presented "Love's Own Sweet Song and "You'll Remember Me." ' After supper other musical items were given. In the course of the evening the Rev. D. D. Scott, of Khandallan. gave an interesting address on "Scotland's Struggle for Freedom." Miss DorOthy Spinks. official accom-panist,-was at, the piano during . the evening. . ; , ' The chairman reported that the president, Mr. R. H. Nimmo. was commissioned to procure at least one copy, of the Scottish National Dictionary which had'recently been compiled by a group of literary Scots of Edinburgh and Glasgow. This work would assist them all to a better understanding of the cultured Scots-language. Votes'of thanks were accorded the lecturer and musical performers, and the meeting closed with the singing of "Auld Lang Syne.
