LABOUR PARTY DANCE

ANNUAL CROQUET MEETING

The popular Saturday, dance in Birch Street Hall held by the Lower ,Hutt branch of the Labour Party attracted an exceptionally large attendance last weekend, the many dancers responding with enthusiasm to animated music from an excellent orchestra. The dainty supper arranged by the ladies of the committee was fully appreciated. Mr. J. Coleman made an efficient M.C. and the winhers of an amusing Monte Carlo dance were Mr. and Mrs. Dent. The'committee comprised Mr. W. Jarvie (president) and Mrs. Jarvie (wearing blue floral georgette), Mr. and Mrs. W. Clout (the latter in blue satin spot crepe), Mr. and Mrs. J. Coleman j •(mushroom floral crepe with nigger- j brown trimmings), Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Scott (powder blue crepe), Mrs. Cocker (beige and brown patterned georgette), Messrs. L. F. Gee, Lamont, M. Gee, and J. E. Smith. , Croquet Club Meeting'. Thi! annual meeting of the Lower Hutt Croquet Club was held recently with practically a full attendance of members. The report and balance-sheet were very favourably commented upon. The election of officers resulted as follows: —Patroness, Mrs. Holland; president, Mrs. J. B. Wood; vice-pre-sident, Mrs. R. V. King; secretary, Mrs.; Wm. Hendry'; treasurer, Mrs. J. Stonehouse; match committee, Mesdames Piper, King, Kirk, Stonehouse; general committee, Mesdames Brooks, M. McKenzie, Hawthorne, Miss Macaskill; delegates to bowling committee, Mesd&mes Wood and Hendry; delegates to Croquet Association, Mesdames. Wood and Piper. Clubhouse Bridge. " , A most successful bridge and "500" evening was held last night in the main clubhouse ,the hostesses being Mrs. W. Hendry, Miss Macaskill, Mrs. J. B. Wood, and Mrs. J. Stonehouse. Play was continued, until a late hour, a delicious home-made supper making a pleasant interval. The winners. of prizes were: Bridge, Mrs. F. Dudding and Mrs. Hayes; hidden number, Miss Kingsland and Mr. W. Hadwin; "500," Mr. Cox and Mr. F. Hewer. Those present included Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Upton, Mrs. Ashton, Mrs. Dwyer, Miss Kingsland, Mr. and Mrs. Wood, Mr. and Mrs. Tamblyn, Mrs. Salt, Mr. and Mrs. King, Mr. and Mrs. Piper, Mr. and Mrs. Hadwin, Mrs. Jennes, Mrs. Mouat, Mr. Laycock, Mrs. Kelly, Mrs.' Wright, Mr. and Mrs. Hawthorne, Mr. and Mrs. Garr, Mrs. Nicholls, Mrs. Macaskill,' Mr. Henry, Mrs. Kirk, Mrs.: Whitcher, Mrs. Webley, Mr. Roper, Mrs. Brooke, Mr. Stonehouse, Mr. Hewer, Miss Waugh, Mrs. Maunder, Mrs. Cox, Mr.' Wetherall, and Mr. Hayes. ,
