VACATING OFFICE

GOVERNOR OF ALBERTA ORDER-IN-COUNCIL SIGNED EDMONTON, May 7. The Lieutenant-Governor of Alberta, Mr. J. C. Bowen, has signed an Order-in-Council and has agreed to vacate Government House on Thursday. A message published recently stated that, defying the Social Credit Government's orders to vacate the office of Lieutenant-Governor, Mr. Bowen remained at Government House despite an announcement by the Government that it would not pay him and'that the further upkeep of the light, telephone, and motoring services had been ordered to be terminated. Mr. Bowen notified Cabinet that his office could only be vacated by Order-in-Council, which the Lieu-tenant-Governor must sign, and which he had no intention of signing.
