YOUTHFUL TALENT
EISTEDDFOD RESULTS SATURDAY'S EVENTS The New Zealand National Eisteddfod Festival, which continued at the Town Hall on Saturday afternoon and evening, brought to light «ome outstanding talent among the youthfur performers. The judges, Mr. Harison Cook (Wellington), vocal; Miss Lexie Mathieson, A.T.C.L. (Dunedin), elocution; Mr. Frank Crowther (Wellington), instrumental; Miss Dolee Brooks, M.R.A.D., M.I.S.T.D. (Sydney), fancy dancing; and Mr. Alec E. Lake (Wellington), national dancing, have been impressed so far with the excellent performances of the competitors, and the packed house on Saturday night was enthusiastic In its applause. The manner in which the festival is being conducted is a tribute to the hard work and organisation of the committee. Results of Saturday's events are:— National Dance (restricted class), own selection; 25 entries.—Joan Dunstall (Wellington), 1; Phyllis Marsh (Wellington), 2; Nolan Hansen (Wellington), 3. Very highly commended: Coleen Grainger (Wellington), Rita Morris (Wellington). Highly commended: Joy Janson (Wellington), Fay Best (Hataitai). Recitation (girls under 6), own selection; 8 entries. —Barbara Allan (Upper Hutt), 1; Monica Keane (Wellington), 2; Hazel Compton (Kilbirnie), 3. Very highly commended: Dorothy Jenness (Lower Hutt), Laurel McNeely (Miramar). Operatic Dance (under 7); 30 entries. —Pamela Connolly (Brooklyn), 1; Anne Rowse (Wadestown), 2; Arnal Bircham (Brooklyn), 3. Very highly commended: Dorothy Jenness (Lower Hutt), Betty Carmen (Berhampore), Dawn Lucas (Petone). Highly commended: Patricia Knighton (Karori), Joi Sotherley (Berhampore). Character Dance (12 and under 16); 19 entries.—Joan Tandy (Karori), 1; Joan Finnegan (Brooklyn), 2; Judy Lewis (Petone) and Betty Paynter (Wellington), equal, 3. Very highly commended: Thelma Anderson (Hataitai), Dawn Larsen (Lower Hutt). Highly commended: Joyce Smith (Northland), Ruby Blair (Wellington).
Dance Duo (9 and under 12); 4 entries.—Shirley Turner and Ivan Lawson (Wellington), 1; Joan Sargent and Edith -Magee (Wellington), 2; Benny Hutchinson and Billy Pond (Wellington), 3. Very highly commended: Patrnne Full and Shirley Maybury (Northland).
Recital with Musical Accompaniment (12 snd under 16), own selection; 7 entries.—Alan Stewart (Miramar), 1; Mary Martin (Miramar), 2; Alison Ramsden (Petone), 3. Very highly commended: Violet Compton (Kilbirnie). Highly commended: Vera Sage (Kilbimie).
Sacred Solo (9 and under 12), own selection; 10 entries.—David Feehan (Karori), 1; Doreen Dickinson (Wellington), 2; Valerie Jackman (Wellington), 3. Very highly commended: Beulah Hirst (Masterton). Highly commended: Joan Lawson (Petone), Ngaire Corkhill (Wellington).
