SHIP DELAYED
PROTEST BY CREW (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, May 8. As a protest against an alleged action' of the company, the crew of the Union Steam Ship Company's coastal steamer Kaimiro refused, to take her to sea on . Saturday .and delayed her departure frond Auckland for Portland and Wellington for about 24 hours, until shortly after 6 o'clock tonight. A claim was made by the men that they should have-received, double pay for a recent Sunday sailing from Westport. Only ordinary time was allowed, as the company held that, as Westport was a bar harbour from which movements cannot always be kept to schedule, this rate for Sunday departures was provided in the award. A meeting of the crew on Saturday ; resulted ih a decision ibeing reached to register a protest by refusing to sail .■until 8 pjn. today. This decision was communicated to Captain Gardiner, and as it was. tfyen impossible to engage another crew, the; ship was kept at the wharf until the time fixed by the crew was reached; v
