ORPHANS' KORERO

The opening korero of the Orphans' Club season was held at the Wellington Masonic Hall on Saturday night, a large number of members attending. The installation of the new president, Chief Orphan W. J. Mountjoy, was a feature of the evening, and. was carried out with musical honours. The immediate past president, 'Orphan J. S. Martin; invested the new chief orphan with 9 gold chain of office. An excellent programme of music and variety followed, items being contributed by the club's orchestra of 40 players, under the conductprship of Orphan H. Godier, and the Returned Soldiers' Choir, under the conductorship of Mr. F. Oakes. Baritone solos were given by Orphans Taylor and Grenfell, novelty club juggling by Orphan Bright, tenor solos t>y vice-pat-ron H. F. Wood, and thumbnail sketches by Orphans North, Starke, and Norwood.

The president welcomed the visitors and read out a large list of new members.- During supper several toasts were honoured, including the health of the president and of the visitors.
