Scott and . the reduction of the field to seven starters gave the big race a very open appearance. Double Great led out from Cantata, Iraq, and Carver Doone, with the rest of the field well up. There was very little pace on and there was no change in the order until the last seven furlongs were entered. Then Cantata raced to the front. Double Great retired before the home turn and in the run to the judge Cantata lasted just long enough to win by a head from Iraq to register , her third win on end. McDermott appeared to leave Iraq's run a little late. Carver Doone was a length, away third, and Rocks Ahead about 10 lengths away fourth. Times: 4min 43sec, 4min 43 l-ssec, 4min 43 2-ssec. He led a bunched field to the straight and had every chance, but failed to run on and finished last.
