WRECKING IN RUSSIA
CHEMICAL INDUSTRY 1937 PLAN FAILS (Received May 9, 2.5 p.m.) MOSCOW, May 8. It is officially announced that the entire 1937 plan for the chemical induttry has failed owing to wreckage. The director, Nakoliakov, and th* chief bookkeeper, Garkonov, in th« fiction department of the State Publishing House, have been arrested on charges of embezzling £40,000, some of which is alleged to have been misappropriated and some advanced to authors for unwritten books. Army tax collectors are swooping on villages throughout Russia to co£ lect arrears of peasants' taxes.
