UPPER HUTT R.S.A.

An appeal for members to rally round the executive and make the branch second to none in the area was made by the president, Mr. S. F. Carver, at the annual meeting of the Upper Hutt branch of the Returned Soldiers' Association on Saturday night. The time had come when all ex-servicemen must join up and show a bold front. Without unity nothing could be done in helping less fortunate returned soldiers.

The annual report stated that there had been an increase in membership of 125 per cent, and much credit for this was due to the membership committee. The assistance committee met once a month to issue orders for food, clothing, and medicine. Many cases of sickness were attended throughout the year. Efforts to get a building for the branch had failed, but it was honed to gain this objective in the ensuing year. The branch was losing three executive members, Messrs. R. Ashford, who had done outstanding work during his five years as secretary, F. P. Kelly, and C. Harris.

The election of officers resulted as follows:—President. Mr. S. F. Carver; vice-president, Mr. E. W. Nicolaus: treasurer, Mr. C. R. Stroud: secretary, Mr. G. Hatt: executive, Messrs. H. Polson. W. McGrath, W. J. McGettigan, J. Morley, T. Spencer,. L. R. Russell. R. Robinson, J. G. Humphrey, and W. A. McNab.
